Storm fallout

Here at the house the storm didn't really live up to expectations. Yesterday morning, it was snowing lightly enough for Fran and I to drive up to the Senior Center, about six miles away, to exercise on the machines for an hour. It was snowing no heavier when we left. We had lunch and lad back for a nap. Around 1pm I heard some wind noise and noticed a lightening sky but dozed off again. When I woke up it was a near blizzard outside -- horizontal snow -- and it was collecting on the streets. The snow didn't stop until after breakfast today.



The storm really messed up the highways and everyone who tried to use them. Many businesses closeed after the lunch hour turning the commuters out into the thick of the storm. It got ugly. Fast. Bridges especially, and the roads had iced up quickly. Hills were an excuse to either stall, spin out or slide off the road. North of us, I-25 was closed from Ft. Collins to the Wyoming border in both directions due to a 30 vehicle pile-up which started with a semi jacknifing as it crossed a bridge. Three cars that had been following it closely all ran into it before it had stopped moving. One picture from the site showed a semi tractor with no recognizeable nose metal. There were a few injuries, but thankfully no fatalities.



The snow in my rain gauge melted out yo .88"; probing the flatest area of the back yard gave me a snow depth of 7". Not bad. That will go a long way to the surface soil moist.
