My morning

Traffic has been tied up on the road behind us since Monday. All traffic is being shunted into one lane, and both directions are affected. The city is preparing to resurface the road. The plan seems to be mill it curb to curb in two block long sections this week, them bring in the pavers. The section behind the house was done yesterday, and I got a couple real-time videos of the process, along with a few stills. This morning at coffee, Fran said "You have to see this." 'This' was the road dust being kicked up by passing traffic. Not bad when a few cars went by, but followint a truck or bus at speed, Wow! Again, videos were taken.

The milling itself is fascinating. The millers themselves aren't anywhere as noisy as one would expect (some delivery trucks are noisier), and the dance of the haulers around them is mesmerizing. I went out for a couple hours this morning to try yet another time-lapse video, shooting over 1320 stills, one every two seconds or so. At one point one of the milling machines threw a tread as it was positioning itself to move back up the hill it had just come down. It took over 45 minutes for the crew to get it back on. (Not all that activity was recorded.) Just as it did get fixed the other machine came down the hill, reversed itself and began cutting the path the first one was trying to set itself up for. The first one then started cutting the right margin of the left turn lane. By that time, I'd had enough. Hope you find it interesting.
