Father's Day

I don't hold much for made-up holidays, and this is certainly one of them. Better for all outside of merchandising that it was just another Sunday. Unfortunately, there are too many twisted minds out there and the day does in fact exist.

The day started uneventfully with Aly following me down into the wetlands. The creek depth meter is showing the water only a foot from the creek bed; quite low given that it was at 2.7' only seven weeks ago. Not much happened until we were almost done walking the bank. There was a commotion off to our right, and turning we saw a medium sized spotted fawn breaking through the willows away from us. When it hit the main path it picked up speed and disappeared towards the road.

Moments later we hit the same path and with a flip of Aly's wallet we also headed towards the road. We hadn't gone far when I spotted another fawn not far off the path. This one was considerably smaller than the first and was holding instinctively stock-still. It had to be standing given the height of the grass. I'm happy that I got a shot of it at all.

Later Fran and Aly presented me with the unnecessary presents. One was a hose-end sprayer from Aly and the other was a very nice cookware set from Fran. It looks like we'll be getting rid of a lot of stuff which doesn't really fit the stove we got a couple years ago. What goes will be Fran's decision -- it's all hers which will be going. Some of it dates back to before our marriage. Tish also presented a couple gifts last night on her way out, a couple Hot Wheels collectibles and an interesting miniature train on a small spike. Dee called to wish a "happy" too. She sounds much less frazzled than a few weeks ago.
To all, thanks! But remember that this is not really a "holy day", just a cheap trick formulated by business. Save your money!
